1) Dancing photography:
Dancing photography is a great mistery to me.
Don't get me wrong: I LOVE it.
It's just... kind of hard.
There are two kinds of dancing photography:
* Photographing during a performance
I discovered it helps a lot that I dance myself and can mostly guess how a move goes on or what is likely to happen.
The lighting is difficult, though.
I don't like to use flash, but most dancers are moving fast.
Non-flash photography leads to blurred pictures and also much noise due to high ISO.
I've seen a lot of photographers handle that problem really really well, but I just don't seem to find the right way myself. Must work on that!
What is good about photographing performances: All is REAL. The dancers don't fake, they just dance and the emotion is there.
*Photosession with a dancer
It is hard... so hard... XD
I'm not a big friend of studio photography. I like natural lighting and being on location.
But there is one thing I always tend to ask myself while/before/after shooting: Why, by all means, is that dancer standing with a pretty costume in *enter random location*??
My answers are: Either they are dancing for an audience or... well... I'm lost... or they are just being pretty for a photographer.
Does 'looking pretty for a photographer' make a good photograph?
I think not!
Many people don't see a problem in a pretty dancer on a meadow.. I kind of do...
Who would randomly stand on a meadow in a costume and just dance away if not on a special event?
And then... often the underground doesn't allow dancing so you're reduced to static poses and that gets even harder...
And you start wondering...: why didn't you choose a better location? XD
So in conclusion: Sometimes I think dancing photography is pure randomness! And maybe luck... oh and... a talented model is crucial!!

2) Is it bad to be me?
Is it bad to be me? Is it bad to be me? Is it bad to be me?
During our last shoot my assistent told me, after a glance at the pictures: That is SO much you!
meaning: Typical composition, crop, pose.
Is it bad to be me?
On the one hand it means: I do have some own style, no?
It also means: My pictures are recognizable as pictures I took.
but it also means: I'm settling in the comfort zone (as a friend called it some time ago)
Does it mean I'm not developing?
And how do I get out of this and on to a higher level.
I'm at a loss!
Oh.. and on another note... I frequently use that phrase, too, that: This is so much you!
I wonder whether I ever threw someone into philosophical rantings by this....

3) It's always more interesting to do things that are not on your 'To Do' list
Why is this? I've no answer to it.

4) Books books books books
Books - I love them
Does any of you know of a good book about photography?
Go ahead! Tell me!

That's it for now, I think...
Sunshine to all of you!
